Brief Introdaction of Nanjing Botanical Garden Mem Sun Yat-sen

It is the first national botanical garden established in China, which was merged by two parts: Botanical Garden Memorial Sun Yat-sen set up in 1929,and Institute of Zoology and Botany, Academia Sinica, set up in 1934.Since December 1993,under dual leadership of Jiangsu province and Chinese Academy of Sciences, it has been renamed as institute of Botany, Jiangsu Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Botanical Garden is located in the Eastern Suburb Scenic Area of Nanjing, with the Purple Mountain behind and the Qian Hu Lake in front. The ground ,183 ha, in area, with the advantage of mild climate, is covered with luxuriant vegetation, beautiful lake, glorious forests and a chain of undulating hills. Through hard efforts for decades, the Nanjing Botanical Garden Mem Sun Yat-sen has now turned into a famous and beautiful Scenic Spot, as well as research center on central and northern subtropical floras of China.
N.B.G. puts emphasis on plant resources and environmental researches with special reference to exploration, utilization, improvement and conservation of central and northern subtropical plant resources.
For a long period of more than seventy years, the Nanjing Botanical Garden has formed a living compastition of landscape beauty, scientific exhibition and a good spot for recreation. Today it comprehensively functions as an idea site for botanical research, education, production and germplasm conservation.
Now, eight featured plantation(sections) are constructed and opened. i.e. Ornamental Plant Section, Plant Systematic Garden, Arboretum, Pinetum, Medicinal Garden, Display Greenhouse,Educational Demonstration Garden and Natural Plant District.
